Time to failure prediction in rubber components subjected to thermal ageing: A combined approach based upon the intrinsic defect concept and the fracture mechanics [PDF]
In this contribution, we attempt to derive a tool allowing the prediction of the stretch ratioat failure in rubber components subjected to thermal ageing.

The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Lifetime predictions of prestressed concrete bridges
The residual structural lifetime of concrete bridges is often limited by fatigue of the prestressing steel. In practice, numerical calculations of the structure are combined with Miner's rule — based on load frequencies and stress amplitudes — to ...

This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

An Enhanced Random Vibration and Fatigue Model for Printed Circuit Boards
Aerospace vehicles are mostly exposed to random vibration loads during its operational lifetime. These harsh conditions excites vibration responses in the vehicles printed circuit boards, what can cause failure on mission functionality due to fatigue ...

A comparison of lifetime prediction methods for a thermal fatigue experiment [PDF]
This paper is dedicated to the comparison of several numerical models for estimating the lifetime in a fatigue experiment. The models simulate the SPLASH experiment, which produces thermal fatigue by locally quenching stainless steel specimens. All models predict first a stabilized mechanical state (plastic shakedown) and then a lifetime prediction ...

Composite Ti–6Al–4V–epoxy lattice structures are additively manufactured and epoxy infiltrated for cyclic loading. At low lattice volume fractions, hybridization produces synergistic gains in stiffness and energy dissipation. At higher volume fractions, synergy diminishes, although composites still exceed metallic lattices in specific energy ...
