Optimal control of the heave motion of marine cable subsea-unit systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
One of the key problems associated with subsea operations involving tethered subsea units is the motions of support vessels on the ocean surface which can be transmitted to the subsea unit through the cable and increase the tension.

Temperature‐Modulated Threshold Response in a Volatile Memristor: Toward a Biomimetic Polymodal Nociceptive System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an artificial polymodal nociceptor whose firing threshold is actively modulated by temperature. A volatile TiN/TiOx/ZnO/TiOx/ITO memristor shows interfacial ion–driven resistive switching and membrane‐potential‐like dynamics, enabling temperature‐dependent nociceptive behavior.

From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

Fatigue life and fatigue reliability mechanism of ball bearings

open access: yesJournal of Mechanics
Abstract As the main supporting parts of rotating machinery, the fatigue life and fatigue reliability of ball bearings directly affect the accuracy, stability and reliability of equipment. Based on the quasi-static model of bearing and the fatigue life theory, this paper analyzes the effect of the external loads on the mechanical ...
