Chronic fatigue syndrome [CFS] exhibits many of the same features as fibromyalgia. Defining both conditions rests on subjective complaints and excluding confounding problems. It is doubtful that either is a new condition. Recent workers have emphasized potential roles of viruses in the etiology of CFS but the data are inconsistent, at best.
