Multidisciplinary Exploration of Computed‐Tomographic and Ancient‐DNA Data of an Iron Age Skull From Latvia With Multiple Lytic Bone Lesions: Differential Diagnosis Between Metastatic Carcinoma, Multiple Myeloma and Skeletal Tuberculosis

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
In this study we used a combined computed tomographic and archaeogenetic approach to analyse a skull and vertebra with lytic lesions from a disturbed grave in the Čunkāni‐Dreņģeri cemetery in Latvia, dated to 10th century CE. Both methodologies were used to evaluate a proposed differential diagnosis of multiple myeloma, metastatic carcinoma and bone ...

Control Strategies for a Power Electronic Based Fault Current Limiter (FCL) in No-Fault Operation

open access: yesRE&PQJ
Fault current limiters (FCL) in electrical power systems offer the opportunity to reduce short-circuit stresses to the system in the case of faults. But as electrical power systems are normally operated without faults most of the time, FCLs must not have negative effects during these periods of normal operation.

Contralateral Thermal Pain and Naturally Occurring Muscle Pain Have Different Effects on Force Production During a Fixed Perceived Effort Handgrip Task

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pain, Volume 30, Issue 6, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background In the presence of pain, performance during imposed workload motor tasks may be maintained at the cost of a higher perceived effort. This study investigated how experimentally induced contralateral thermal pain and naturally occurring muscle pain influence force production during a fixed perceived effort task.

Enhancement of DUBAL Network Operational Performance Using Resistive High Temperature Superconducting Fault Current Limiter

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Power systems under expansion suffer from escalating fault levels that impact equipment integrity, operational flexibility, and the overall security of the system.

Control Design for a Power Electronic Based Fault Current Limiter (FCL)

open access: yesRE&PQJ
This paper shows a solution for controlling shortcircuit currents of a power electronic based Fault Current Limiter (FCL). A model for control design of three-phase short-circuit currents will be presented. A way of limiting the maximum aperiodic short-circuit current is derived with special regards to the stability of the entire system.

Reversal of economic integration: evidence from European Union enlargement

open access: yesThe Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Volume 128, Issue 3, Page 660-685, July 2026.
Abstract Empirical models of trade agreements implicitly assume that withdrawal from a trade agreement has an equal and opposite trade effect as accession (i.e., symmetry). With increasing opposition to international economic cooperation, it becomes urgent to test this assumption.

A novel current-limiting hybrid DC breaker based on thyristors

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2023
Since the DC current has no zero-crossing in high-voltage and large-capacity DC scenarios, and the low line impedance results in a large growth rate of fault current, the breaking requirements of DC circuit breakers (DCCB) are further increased.

Backbone‐Controlled Ion‐Side Chain Accessibility in Conjugated Polymers for Organic Electrochemical Synaptic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 50, 22 June 2026.
Backbone modulation in glycolated conjugated polymers governs ion accessibility to side chains, strengthes anion adsorption, and suppresses back‐diffusion. As the number of thiophene units increases, structural reorganization, retention, and synaptic plasticity are enhanced, leading to improved neuromorphic performance in electrolyte‐gated organic ...

New Computational Method for Optimal Allocation of Fault Current Limiters in Power Systems

open access: yesIranian Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2021
Expansion of power system causes short-circuit currents (SCC) of networks to exceed the tolerable SCCs of equipment. The utilization of fault current limiter (FCL) in such networks is needed to address this issue.

A Mathematical Approach to Simultaneously Plan Generation and Transmission Expansion Based on Fault Current Limiters and Reliability Constraints

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
Today, generation and transmission expansion planning (G&TEP) to meet potential load growth is restricted by reliability constraints and the presence of uncertainties.
