High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Structural conditions within Sava Fault zone in the Western Karavanke mountains, NW Slovenia

open access: yesGeologija, 2007
The investigated area of Western Karavanke lies in the zone of Sava Fault – the southern most part of the Periadriatic Fault zone. The work is based on detail structural mapping of the fault zones combined with measurements of microtectonic data used for

Accuracy-Improved Fault Diagnosis Method for Rolling Bearing Based on Enhanced ESGMD-CC and BA-ELM Model

open access: yesShock and Vibration
The current methods for early fault diagnosis of rolling bearing have some flaws, such as poor fault feature information and insufficient fault feature extraction capability, which makes it challenging to guarantee fault diagnosis accuracy.

Mapping finite-fault earthquake slip using spatial correlation between seismicity and point-source Coulomb failure stress change

open access: yesSeismica
Most earthquake energy release arises during fault slip many kilometers below the Earth’s surface. Understanding earthquakes and their hazard requires mapping the geometry and distribution of this slip.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Nonplanar 3D fault geometry controls the spatiotemporal distributions of slip and uplift: evidence from the Mw 7.5 2024 Noto Peninsula, Japan, Earthquake

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
The 2024 Mw 7.5 Noto Peninsula Earthquake broke through a previously documented active fault system over 150 km in the northern central Japanese Island. This fault system is characterized by geometrical complexity.

Copper Nanocrystallization in Anodic Oxide Films of Ti–Cu‐Based Bulk Metallic Glass and Its Effect on the Corrosion Resistance and Cytocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Viktoriia Shtefan, Thorgund Nemec, Ute Hempel, Annett Gebert and coworkers demonstrate that anodic treatment of Ti–Cu‐based metallic glass in a nontoxic pyrophosphate electrolyte forms a protective bilayered Ti/Zr‐oxide film enriched with Cu nanocrystals.

An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.

Analyzing Electronic Excitations and Exciton Binding Energies in Y6 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The Y6 molecule is used for increasing the efficiency of organic solar cells. The exciton binding energy is calculated for ensembles of Y6 molecules that are representative of the typically used films. The calculations show that the excitons typically spread out over many molecules.
