3D Fault Plane Geometry and Fault Scaling Studies Using Seismic Attributes
Proceedings, 2015We have applied an advanced seismic fault attribute workflow to improve images of faults at different scales. The attribute volumes were used to study the actual geometry of fault plane in 3D in space. This fault plane assessment is independent of uncertainties imposed by traditional seismic-interpretation.

Influence of Small-scale Fault Geometry on Across-fault Fluid Flow
Proceedings, 2012Few case studies have demonstrated the importance of small-scale fault zone complexities on across fault fluid flow and little progress has been made in modeling and implementing them in reservoir simulation models. In this study, we use a high quality 4D seismic dataset from offshore West Africa to investigate the relationship between small-scale ...

Analysis of fault geometry and displacement patterns
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 1996Abstract Interpretation of the subsurface is still often performed on suites of vertical seismic sections with structures being correlated from line to line to build up a map view at a particular horizon. The advent of 3D seismic surveys and routine use of interpretation software has made it common to produce ‘horizon-based’ interpretations ...

Normal fault geometry and fault reactivation in tectonic inversion experiments
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 1991Abstract Scaled physical models of extensional structures associated with fault reactivation were achieved in sand by superimposing extensional tectonics on thrust faults created during prior episodes of horizontal shortening. The extension produced three distinct responses: selective reactivation of pre-existing thrusts, favouring the ...

Fault geometry and its relationship with seismicity in the Xianshuihe fault zone
Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, 1990Abstract The Xianshuihe fault zone is an active fault zone noticeable by its rather high seismicity in West China. The present study will discuss segmentation of fault geometry and seismicity, the pattern of earthquake distribution and migration, physical conditions for seismogenesis, the relationship between fault length and earthquake magnitude as ...

Fault geometry and earthquakes in continental interiors
Tectonophysics, 1999Abstract Although large earthquakes in continental interiors are much less frequent than those along plate boundaries, they have been responsible for a disproportionate amount of destruction. I present a testable model for strain accumulation and seismicity in the upper crust of continental interiors.
