Faults, Injection Methods, and Fault Attacks
IEEE Design & Test of Computers, 2007An active attacker can induce errors during the computation of the cryptographic algorithm and exploit the faulty results to extract information about the secret key in embedded systems. We call this kind of attack a fault attack. Fault attacks can break an unprotected system more quickly than any other kind of side-channel attack such as simple power ...

Fault Injection Attacks: Attack Methodologies, Injection Techniques and Protection Mechanisms
Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2016Fault Injection Attacks are a powerful form of active attack mechanism which can threaten even the strongest of cryptographic algorithms. This attack vector has become more pertinent with the growing popularity of the Internet of things (IoT), which is based on small omnipresent embedded systems interacting with sensitive data of personal or critical ...

Fault attacks, injection techniques and tools for simulation
2015 10th International Conference on Design & Technology of Integrated Systems in Nanoscale Era (DTIS), 2015Faults attacks are a serious threat to secure devices, because they are powerful and they can be performed with extremely cheap equipment. Resistance against fault attacks is often evaluated directly on the manufactured devices, as commercial tools supporting fault evaluation do not usually provide the level of details needed to assert the security of ...

A fault-injection attack on Fiat-Shamir cryptosystems
24th International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops, 2004. Proceedings., 2004Fault-injection attacks and cryptanalysis is a realistic threat for systems implementing cryptographic algorithms. We revisit the fault-injection attacks on the Fiat-Shamir authentication scheme, a popular authentication scheme for service providers like pay per view television, video distribution and cellular phones.

Stratification of Hardware Attacks: Side Channel Attacks and Fault Injection Techniques
SN Computer Science, 2021Cryptographic devices have many encrypted and secured solutions to protect them against hardware attacks. Hardware designers spent huge amount of time and effort in implementing cryptographic algorithms, keeping the analysis of design constraints into consideration.

LLFI: Lateral Laser Fault Injection Attack
2019 Workshop on Fault Diagnosis and Tolerance in Cryptography (FDTC), 2019In this work, a novel technique of fault injection attack on secure integrated circuits (ICs) devices is presented: Lateral Laser Fault Injection (LLFI). Laser Fault Injection with backside illumination is typically the most efficient and widely used technique to perturb secure ICs.

On Analyzing Program Behavior under Fault Injection Attacks
2016 11th International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security (ARES), 2016Fault attacks pose a serious threat to cryptographic algorithm implementations. It is a non-trivial task to design a code that minimizes the risk of exploiting the incorrect output that was produced by inducing faults in the algorithm execution process.

Fault injection attacks pose serious threat in security of embedded devices since they require less expertise to conduct them. Suitable countermeasures can only be built if there effects are studied and analyzed in detail. This paper presents circuits which produces power fault injection attack (positive, negative, positive/negative) through voltage ...

Fault Injection Attack on Salsa20 and ChaCha and a Lightweight Countermeasure
2017 IEEE Trustcom/BigDataSE/ICESS, 2017We propose a fault injection attack on Salsa20 and ChaCha stream ciphers. In these stream ciphers, the initial matrix X, which consists of constants, a key, a block counter, and a nonce, is added to the matrix X(20) process with a round function to generate a keystream.
