Enhanced distribution feeder fault location
2014 67th Annual Conference for Protective Relay Engineers, 2014Accurate fault location in distribution networks of power systems is an essential technology, yet faces more challenges than that in transmission systems. This paper presents a novel method for feeder fault location using current/voltage sensors sparsely deployed in the network.

Fault Location in H.V. Power Systems
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1980Abstract The available criteria for distance-to-fault measurement are summarized. Methods using the electrical quantities of the short-circuit loop are discussed in detail. Influencing factors and suitable compensation methods are outlined. The advantage of applied digital techniques is demonstrated. A descriptionis given of a digital operating fault

An automated fault locating system
Proceedings of the 1991 IEEE Power Engineering Society Transmission and Distribution Conference, 1992A prototype system for automatically locating faults is described and all of the measurements are interpreted by computer. The instrument implements a three step procedure for locating the fault. A global procedure is used to locate the fault to the nearest transformer. Precision methods are then used to localize and then pinpoint the fault.

Fault Location Utilizing Unsynchronized Voltage Measurements During Fault
Electric Power Components and Systems, 2006Diverse transmission line fault location methods have been proposed utilizing voltages and currents as inputs. This article develops several algorithms utilizing only the voltages, dispensing with current transformers and thus eliminating the errors caused by saturation of current transformers.

Locating faults in power cables
Electrical Engineering, 1932Power cable fault locating is at times difficult due to a high initial fault resistance or an increase of resistance during the time locating is in progress. A method using a constant current transformer for reducing high initial resistance and preventing its increase, in connection with a short circuiting switch to generate signals for locating the ...
