The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Grounding Fault Protection Scheme for 0.4 kV Switchgear in Metro Substations

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
[Objective] Single-phase grounding faults account for over 80% of the total distribution line faults, with most inter-phase faults originating from single-phase grounding faults.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

A pilot protection scheme for MMC-HVDC grids independent of line boundaries based on fault component integration

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
Implementing pilot protection schemes for high-impedance fault identification in MMC-HVDC grids can significantly enhance system reliability. Current protection strategies predominantly depend on accurately identifying fault-traveling wave arrival times,

One size does not fit all: An in vitro evaluation of the effects of bezafibrate and medroxyprogesterone acetate on human SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.

An overview of protection and location techniques for generator stator ground faults

open access: yesZhejiang dianli
Stator ground protection and fault location are a critical component of generator protection. To enhance the capability for sensitive clearing and rapid location of stator ground faults, this paper summarizes recent research advances from two key aspects:

Enhanced Fault Current-Limiting Circuit Design for a DC Fault in a Modular Multilevel Converter-Based High-Voltage Direct Current System

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The main weakness of the half-bridge modular multilevel converter-based high-voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC) system lies in its immature solution to extremely high current under direct current (DC) line fault.

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...
