Transformer fault protection for low impedance faults

Conference Record of the Twenty-Third International Power Modulator Symposium (Cat. No. 98CH36133), 2002
Precision measurements of transformer insulation quality demands minimizing damage during test-to-breakdown. A fault tolerant insertion system has been developed for this application. This paper addresses a current limiting model for this system design that protects the high current insertion transformer from sustaining irreparable damage.

Protection System Faults ¿ a Comparative Review of Fault Statistics

2006 International Conference on Probabilistic Methods Applied to Power Systems, 2006
Correct operation of the protection system is of vital importance for the reliability and security of supply. Information of protection system faults is therefore important for different purposes such as quality of supply regulation and as input data to security and reliability analysis.

Fault and out-of-step protection of lines

Electrical Engineering, 1935
The stability characteristics of a typical high voltage transmission circuit have been considered together with the requirements for short-circuit protection, as a basis for the selection and application of relay protective devices. In this paper, the performance of the 132 kv New York Edison-Niagara Hudson interconnection under fault and swing ...

Fault Attack Protection and Evaluation

2020
Fault attacks can obstruct the normal system execution by injecting errors into the hardware. By radiating the critical circuit components with high energy particle strikes, voltage transients are created to make the circuit malfunction temporarily. In recent years, fault attacks have demonstrated a great capability of leaking the cryptographics keys ...

The arc-fault circuit protection

Conference Record of the 2001 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. 36th IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. No.01CH37248), 2002
In electrical power systems bolted short-circuits are rare and the fault usually involves arcing and burning; mostly the limit value of minimum short-circuit depends on arcing-fault. In AC low voltage systems, the paper examines the arcing-fault branch circuits as weak points. Different protection measures are available against the arc-faults.

Faults and Protections

2010
This chapter describes symmetrical three phase faults (Section 13.1), breakers (Section 13.2) and relays (Section 13.3). The chapter also describes measurement devices of non-standard quantities during time domain simulations, namely the Phasor Measurement Unit (Section 13.4) and the bus frequency measurement (Section 13.5).

Transformer faults and protection systems

14th International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 1997 - Distributing Power for the Millennium), 1997
Although safety of property and persons, respect for the environment and improvement of operating conditions have always formed part of the aims of power network operators, these matters are gaining in importance daily as the Century draws to a close, given that the basic functions have been acquired.

A New Method of Ground Fault Protection

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1934
A new high-resistance ``thyrite'' and a new 3-element cold-cathode tube having unusual characteristics constitute the basic elements in a new high voltage relay combination for relaying or detecting ground faults on ungrounded systems. This scheme of protection, as described herein, is characterized by its reliability, simplicity, sensitivity, and low ...

Fault development and protection

1998
DC converter stations form an integral part with the AC-power system, and their basic protection philosophy is thus greatly influenced by AC-system protection principles. There are, however, two technical reasons which influence some departure from the conventional protection philosophy, i.e.

Fault Protection with a Digital Computer

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1969
A fundamental basis has been developed for the use of a time-shared stored-program digital computer to perform many of the electrical power-system protective-relay functions in a substation. Logic operations are given to detect a fault, locate it, and initiate the opening of the appropriate circuit breakers, whether the fault is in the station or on ...
