3D investigation and modeling of the geometric effects on porosity in packed beds

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract In porous beds, physical boundaries restrict particle arrangement, leading to inhomogeneous porosity. This paper reports on the porosity profiles that are the result of geometric effects on monodisperse packed beds in cylindrical and cubic arrangements. Special focus is given to the influence of edges and corners in cubic geometries.

Surface slip variability on strike‐slip faults

Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, 2022
AbstractSlip in strike‐slip earthquakes is spatially variable along a fault, but the degree to which variability over short length scales is inherent to the rupture process or introduced by interpretation and measurement has not been quantified. In this study, we examine the effects of interpretation error on apparent short‐wavelength variability in ...

Partitioning the Ongoing Extension of the Central Apennines (Italy): Fault Slip Rates and Bulk Deformation Rates From Geodetic and Stress Data

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2020
We investigated whether the joint inversion of geodetic and stress direction data can constrain long‐term fault slip rates in the central Apennines, and ultimately how extension is partitioned among fault slip and bulk lithosphere permanent strain ...

Fluid-induced aseismic fault slip outpaces pore-fluid migration

Science, 2019
Slip outraces the fluids Earthquakes generated from fluid injections sometimes appear to occur much faster than would be expected from the speed of fluid migration.
