Fault Tree Analysis Using Bit Manipulation

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1977
This paper describes an efficient technique for computerized fault-tree analysis. The technique is based upon binary coding of events and bit manipulation for tree reduction, reducing both computation time and computer storage requirements. The operations include generation of minimal cut sets for trees containing arbitrary AND and OR logic, and ...

Classification of fault trees and algorithms of fault tree analysis

Microelectronics Reliability, 1990
Abstract A new classification of fault trees is proposed, and the relationship between the new and old classifications is discussed. The new classification is illustrated with an example, and the limitation of the well-known simple prime implicant algorithm, which can work on fault trees, is shown.

Multistate fault-tree analysis

Reliability Engineering & System Safety, 1990
Abstract The recursive pivotal decomposition algorithm is a quantitative analysis method of binary fault-tree. In this article, the algorithm will be applied to the multistate case. As a result, a practical method of quantitative analysis of multistate fault-trees is given.

Fault-Tree Analysis Using a Binary Decision Tree

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1985
Summary: A new algorithm for the production of a short disjoint-products form of a fault-tree output function is presented and discussed. This algorithm consists of a sequential binary decision process to find first big, then smaller sets of elementary system-failure states which correspond to disjoint-product terms.
