Study on Water Inrush Characteristics of Hard Rock Tunnel Crossing Heterogeneous Faults

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Fault water inflow is one of the most severe disasters that can occur during the construction of hard and brittle rock tunnels. These tunnels traverse brittle fault breccia zones comprising two key components: a damage zone dominated by low-strain ...

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Design and Simulation of Three Zones Distance Protection Scheme

open access: yesNTU Journal of Engineering and Technology
This work describes the protection mechanism of transmission line at fault. Transmission line is divided into three zones and it is also provided by a backup protection MATLAB simulation was used to represent the three steps protection under single line

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

The use of Terrestrial Laser Scanning in characterizing active tectonic processes from postseismic slip to the long term growth of normal faults [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This thesis investigates two main hypotheses regarding uncertainty in the measurement of paleoseismic offsets used to estimate fault activity and paleoearthquake magnitudes on normal faults: (1) That variations in fault geometry have a significant effect

Recent advances in the understanding of fault zone internal structure: a review

open access: yes, 2008
It is increasingly apparent that faults are typically not discrete planes but zones of deformed rock with a complex internal structure and three-dimensional geometry.

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.
