Properties of inelastic yielding zones generated by in-plane dynamic ruptures—I. Model description and basic results [PDF]
We discuss results associated with 2-D numerical simulations of in-plane dynamic ruptures on a fault governed by slip-weakening and rate-and-state friction laws with off-fault yielding. The onset of yielding is determined by a Mohr–Coulomb-type criterion

Segmentation of Fault Networks Determined from Spatial Clustering of Earthquakes
We present a new method of data clustering applied to earthquake catalogs, with the goal of reconstructing the seismically active part of fault networks.

Toughening β‐Ga2O3 via Mechanically Seeded Dislocations
β‐Ga2O3 is promising for next‐generation semiconductors but its brittleness limits flexible and high‐precision applications. Here, mechanically seeded dislocations introduced by surface deformation improved damage tolerance in (001) β‐Ga2O3. Nanoindentation and characterization show dislocations suppress cleavage cracks by enabling stable plastic ...

We numerically investigate the role of plastic strain accumulation on the mechanical response of a planar strike‐slip fault. Our models show that fault‐zone strength significantly impacts the ensuing sequence of earthquakes.

Multi-phase transpressive strike-slip faults are well developed in the Carboniferous strata of the Chepaizi Uplift, Junggar Basin. These faults are characterized by severe weathering at the top, strong heterogeneity, poor stratification, and indistinct ...

Possible role of crustal flexure in the initial detachment of extensional allochthons [PDF]
The existence of low-angle normal faults indicates that the ratio of shear stress (TAU) to normal stress (sigma sub N) needed to cause slip on faults is substantially less than would be predicted based on experimental data. Because the tensional strength

In‐situ doping during growth of SnSe and subsequent attachment of SnS produces high‐quality lateral pn‐heterojunctions between van der Waals semiconductors. Electron beam induced current measurements demonstrate electrically active pn‐junctions, paving the way for devices that harness charge separation at lateral interfaces in layered heterostructures.

High‐energy electron impact in plasma catalysis often causes excessive dissociation of active intermediates, limiting C2+ product selectivity. To address this challenge, a bio‐inspired stoma‐shell nanoarchitecture is designed to decouple electron impact from catalytic reaction zones.
