Monitoring mosaic biotopes in a marine conservation zone by autonomous underwater vehicle. [PDF]
Abstract The number of marine protected areas (MPAs) has increased dramatically in the last decade and poses a major logistic challenge for conservation practitioners in terms of spatial extent and the multiplicity of habitats and biotopes that now require assessment. Photographic assessment by autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) enables the consistent

Response and resilience of karst subterranean estuary communities to precipitation impacts
Heavy precipitation events caused a halocline shift resulting in a mortality event at a karst subterranean estuary, affecting the fauna inhabiting under the halocline (dotted white line) at the marine groundwater layer (a‐b). Overall, marine species (c‐e) inhabiting the caves were impacted, and cave‐adapted fauna (f‐i) remain resilient to short‐term ...

Abstract In the Anthropocene, understanding the impacts of anthropogenic influence on biodiversity and behavior of vulnerable wildlife communities is increasingly relevant to effective conservation. However, comparative studies aimed at disentangling the concurrent effect of different types of human disturbance on multifaceted biodiversity and on ...

Understanding why consumers in China switch between wild, farmed, and synthetic bear bile products
Abstract An important rationale for legally farmed and synthetic wildlife products is that they reduce illegal, wild‐sourced trade by supplying markets with sustainable alternatives. For this to work, more established illegal‐product consumers must switch to legal alternatives than new legal‐product consumers switch to illegal wild products.

Abstract When in 2010 the world's governments pledged to increase protected area coverage to 17% of the world's land surface, several Central African countries had already set aside 25% of their northern savannas for conservation. To evaluate the effectiveness of this commitment, we analyzed the results of 68 multispecies surveys conducted in the seven

Participatory scenario planning to facilitate human–wildlife coexistence
Abstract Fostering human–wildlife coexistence requires transdisciplinary approaches that integrate multiple sectors, account for complexity and uncertainty, and ensure stakeholder participation. One such approach is participatory scenario planning, but to date, this approach has not been used in human–wildlife contexts.
