Winter‐active spiders (Clubiona) have a hyperactive antifreeze protein with a unique beta‐solenoid fold

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 8, Page 2270-2290, April 2026.
Antifreeze proteins from winter‐active spiders were purified using their affinity for ice. After LC–MSMS characterization, corresponding transcripts were identified. The antifreeze protein folds as a β‐solenoid with a large flat ice‐binding site on one surface and can bind to ice crystals and prevent their growth at −4 °C.

Limited drought tolerance in the neotropical seasonally dry forest plants impairs future species richness

open access: yesPlant Biology, Volume 28, Issue 3, Page 846-859, April 2026.
Global climate change will likely modify the plant assemblages of the Neotropical seasonally dry forest based on the physiological capabilities of the species. Abstract Neotropical seasonal dry forest (NSDF) is one of the most threatened ecosystems according to global climate change predictions.

Taxonomic and faunistic notes on Greek ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

open access: yes, 2018
Cataglyphis cretica (Forel, 1910) is raised to species rank and redescribed. The following synonymies are proposed: Lepisiota nigra (Dalla Torre, 1893) = Lepisiota splendens Karavaiev, 1912 syn. nov.; Camponotus boghossiani Forel, 1911 = Camponotus boghossiani stenoticus Emery, 1915 syn.

Clarifying space use concepts in ecology: Range vs. occurrence distributions

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Quantifying animal movements is necessary for answering a wide array of research questions in ecology and conservation biology. Consequently, ecologists have made considerable efforts to identify the best way to estimate an animal's home range, and many methods of estimating home ranges have arisen over the past half a century.

Evaluating the Potential for Citizen Science Divers to Monitor Fish Biodiversity Through Passive eDNA Collection

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Passive capture of eDNA can be used as a tool for citizen scientist SCUBA divers to supplement visual surveys for marine species detection and is particularly useful for species that are rare or visually inaccessible to divers. ABSTRACT Environmental DNA (eDNA) marker gene sequencing, or metabarcoding, can be a powerful tool for monitoring marine ...

Faunistic notes on the genus Sciapus Zeller (Diptera, Dolichopodidae) of Morocco

open access: yesАмурский зоологический журнал, 2019
During recent surveys conducted in Morocco, many species of Dolichopodidae (Diptera, Brachycera) new for the country have been collected. In this paper a review of Moroccan Sciapus Zeller, 1842 fauna is given. Sciapus heteropygus Parent, 1926 and S. holoxanthos Parent, 1926 are found in the country for the first time. An annotated checklist of Moroccan

Linking Environmental Gradients, Functional Traits, and Phylogenetic Structure in Meloidae (Coleoptera) Assemblages of Inner Western Anatolia

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 32, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Blister beetles (Coleoptera: Meloidae) exhibit complex life cycles, strong host dependencies, and unusual dispersal strategies, yet community‐level ecological analyses remain rare. We aimed to identify the environmental drivers of Meloidae assemblage structure and species richness, assess whether species responses are taxonomically ...

New records of Agromyzidae (Diptera) from western Turkey

open access: yes, 2002
Specimens were collected once a week from Mugla province, western Turkey, in 2000 and 2001 from cultured and non-cultured plants. During this study Ophiomyia pulicaria (Meigen, 1830); Aulagromyza buhri (de Meijere, 1938); Chromatomyia scolopendri ...
