Biological surveys reveal unexpectedly high faunal diversity at Nankai Trough methane seeps

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract Cold seeps are chemosynthesis‐based ecosystems powered by microbial primary production that support diverse and specialized faunal assemblages in the deep sea. Despite Nankai Trough in Japan being a geologically active margin hosting numerous seeps, much of the faunal diversity remains undocumented.

The Role of the Middle East in the Biogeographical Dispersal of Host‐Specific Parasites: Monogeneans and Their Cyprinoid Fish Hosts

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim This study investigates the diversity and phylogeny of Dactylogyrus species in the Middle East, as well as uncovers the historical dispersal routes and biogeographical contacts of cyprinoid host species using their host‐specific parasites. Location The Middle East. Taxon Dactylogyrus (Dactylogyridae: Monogenea), Cyprinoidei (Cypriniformes).

Regional Variation in Insularity Effects on Acorn Herbivory in European Oaks Challenges Predictions of Lower Herbivory on Islands

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Ecological theory predicts lower herbivory on islands. However, most island‐mainland comparisons have focused on vegetative tissues, while reproductive structures remain understudied despite their direct influence on plant fitness and recruitment.
