Prevalence and Outcome of Operative Vaginal Delivery among Mothers Who Gave Birth at Jimma University Medical Center, Southwest Ethiopia

open access: yesJournal of Pregnancy, 2018
Background. Operative vaginal deliveries (OVD) are vaginal deliveries accomplished with the use of a vacuum device or forceps. If it is technically feasible and can be safely accomplished, termination of second stage labor by operative vaginal delivery ...

Prenatal diagnosis of fetal digestive system malformations and pregnancy outcomes at a tertiary referral center in Fujian, China: A retrospective study

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Fetal digestive system malformations (DSMs) are correlated with chromosomal anomalies. The prenatal diagnosis of DSMs allows for timely treatment and reduces perinatal morbidity and mortality. However, genetic screening for fetal DSMs is rarely reported.

Predictors of poor perinatal outcome following maternal perception of reduced fetal movements - a prospective cohort study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: Maternal perception of reduced fetal movement (RFM) is associated with increased risk of stillbirth and fetal growth restriction (FGR). RFM is thought to represent fetal compensation to conserve energy due to insufficient oxygen and nutrient ...

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Noninvasive prenatal diagnosis of fetal RhD status using cell-free fetal DNA in maternal plasma with TaqMan® real-time PCR assay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Prenatal diagnosis is now part of established obstetric practice in many countries. However, conventional methods of prenatal diagnosis of obtaining fetal tissues for genetic analysis, including amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling, are invasive

Bridging the gap: a genetically validated avian chorioallantoic membrane platform for investigation of spontaneous circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established the avian chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay as a scalable in vivo model for studying circulating tumor cells (CTCs). Human gastrointestinal tumors spontaneously released genetically validated CTCs that were detected across multiple platforms, demonstrating that the CAM model provides an accessible tool for investigating early cancer ...

Neuroblastoma arises in early fetal development and its evolutionary duration predicts outcome

open access: yesNature Genetics, 2023
Somatic evolutionary analysis of neuroblastoma, a pediatric tumor, proposes a common fetal time of origin. Notably, high-risk tumors exhibit early genomic instability and prolonged evolution, and this evolutionary duration predicts clinical outcomes ...

Engineering IL‐4 resistant proinflammatory human myeloid cells for cancer immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a scalable workflow to generate proinflammatory human myeloid cells. CRISPR/Cas9‐edited CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells were expanded and differentiated with M‐CSF. Deletion of STAT6 or STAT6/NFKB1 enhanced macrophage proinflammatory gene expression and cytokine secretion in the presence of IL‐4 while maintaining antibody ...

GelMA‐based 3D spheroids recapitulate transcriptomic and functional hallmarks of myeloid sarcoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
GelMA 5% hydrogels support the formation of myeloid leukemia spheroids that recapitulate MS‐specific features, including G1 arrest, apoptosis, and ECM‐driven transcriptomic reprogramming. The 3D model mimicked soft‐tissue‐like stiffness and oxygen conditions, and transcriptomic convergence with primary MS samples confirmed its utility as a preclinical ...

Real‐World Trends in Prenatal Antirheumatic Drug Utilization in Ontario, Canada: A Cross‐Sectional Time‐Series Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aimed to describe real‐world trends in preconception and prenatal use of antirheumatic drugs among pregnant individuals with rheumatic diseases in Ontario, Canada. Methods We conducted a time‐series analysis using repeated cross‐sectional data to examine annual patterns of disease‐modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) use among ...
