Temperature Sensor Array for Tactile Sensation Using FBG Sensors

2006 5th IEEE Conference on Sensors, 2006
This paper describes a tactile sensor system which can detect distributed temperature and distributed force using a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor. The newly designed temperature sensor using FBG is introduced and the performance of this temperature sensor is evaluated.

Towards Finger Motion Capture System Using FBG Sensors

2018 40th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2018
This paper introduces a novel finger motion capture system using FBG (fiber Bragg grating) optical sensors. We develop two types of sensors to seamlessly reconstruct finger motion from strains induced in the FBGs. First, the shape sensor incorporates three optical fibers with multiple FBGs to reconstruct the position and orientation of a finger joint ...

Analysis of FBG Sensors Data for Pipeline Monitoring

Volume 1: Multifunctional Materials; Mechanics and Behavior of Active Materials; Integrated System Design and Implementation; Structural Health Monitoring, 2016
Pipelines for oil distribution may affect the environment when natural disasters such as landslides and earthquakes damage the infrastructures. Besides natural causes, illegal extraction of oil from the pipelines can produce significant environmental damage and sometimes loss of lives from explosions.

Experimental study on an FBG strain sensor

Optical Fiber Technology, 2018
Abstract Landslides and other geological disasters occur frequently and often cause high financial and humanitarian cost. The real-time, early-warning monitoring of landslides has important significance in reducing casualties and property losses. In this paper, by taking the high initial precision and high sensitivity advantage of FBG, an FBG strain ...

FBG sensor network in Qinghai-Tibet Railway

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
In this paper, fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors network in the subgrade temperature monitoring system in Qinghai- Tibet railway is presented. The principle of the FBG temperature sensor is introduced and the feasibility of the FBG sensors in the permafrost regions of Qinghai-Tibet plateau is analyzed.

Diaphragm based high sensitive FBG pressure sensor

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
A high sensitive pressure sensor based on Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) integrated with a thin metal diaphragm was designed and demonstrated. To enhance the pressure sensitivity FBG is firmly glued across the diameter of the diaphragm. Under pressure, the diaphragm deforms and produces an induced strain along the length of the fiber causes shift in Bragg ...

FBG strain sensor mounted on plastic carrier

Fiber Optic Sensors and Applications XV, 2018
Fiber optic Bragg gratings are among the most widely used fiber optic sensors. It uses in dangerous explosive environments thanks to the electrical passivity of the sensor itself, but also in applications with high electromagnetic disturbance. Maintaining immunity of the sensor to electromagnetic interference requires non-electrical encapsulation ...

Novel intensity-modulated temperature-independent FBG sensors

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
Intensity-modulated fiber-optic sensors have many advantages including simplicity and potential low cost. The developments of several intensity-modulated fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor systems are introduced in this paper. These include a displacement sensor, a tilt sensor (both based on chirped FBGs), and a dual-FBG based sensor which can measure ...

FBG Sensors for Flexible Surface Vibration Test

2007 International Conference on Information Acquisition, 2007
Many flexible surfaces test as well as solar sail, bridges, dome of structures were important for healthy monitor. This paper presents a novel approach to the problems and we designed a passive smart structures test system using fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors which are embedded into the flexible surface with the technology of the smart materials and
