Unlike single carrier-frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA), just combining discrete Fourier transform (DFT) spreading and filter bank multicarrier with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC-OQAM) results in only marginal peak to average power ratio (PAPR) reduction.

Channel estimation performance of OQAM/FBMC and QAM/FBMC systems
2015 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS), 2015This paper discusses the preamble-based channel estimation for OQAM/FBMC and QAM/FBMC systems. Firstly, conventional channel estimation methods for OQAM/FBMC system, namely pair of pilot (POP) and interference approximation (IAM), are reviewed. Since the OQAM/FBMC system achieves orthogonality only in the real domain, the OQAM/FBMC system suffers from ...

On Blind Symbol-Timing Estimation for FBMC Systems: The Case of FBMC-PAM
2018 15th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS), 2018This paper deals with the problem of blind symbol timing estimation for filter bank multicarrier systems with pulse amplitude modulation (FBMe-PAM). In FBMe-PAM a sequence of real-valued symbols can be transmitted over 2 $M$ spectrally separated subcarriers operating at the same symbol rate as OFDM.

IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2020
Future communication systems are foreseen to support several services with different requirements. Waveform designs based on filter-bank multi-carrier with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC/OQAM) can offer interesting advantages in this context, such as low out-of-band power leakage and high spectral efficiency due to the lack of guard ...

Application of FBMC in Optical Communications [PDF]
This chapter firstly introduces the historical perspectives of using optical coherent communications in order to fulfill the ever-increasing capacity requirements. The optical fiber communication systems are then presented, in which the impairments of optical fiber medium are summarized.

FBMC duplexing: Advantages and problems
2015 10th International Conference on Information, Communications and Signal Processing (ICICS), 2015In this paper, we propose a FBMC (filter bank multicarrier) duplexing scheme, where downlink and uplink use FBMC for their transmission. Downlink and uplink transmit at the same time and in the same frequency band but with different subcarriers. We then analyze the advantages and problems of the scheme.

Efficient LLR Calculation for FBMC
IEEE Communications Letters, 2015Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology has been adopted in various communications and broadcasting systems, including LTE, WiMax, and DVB-T2. However, cyclic prefix (CP) and guard band are required to limit the inter-symbol and adjacent interference, which would cause loss of spectral efficiency. Filter bank multiple carrier (FBMC)

Synchronization Method for FBMC Systems
2017 IEEE 86th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC-Fall), 2017This paper investigates timing and frequency synchronization applicable for filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) systems. Filtering and symbol overlap make designing a training period that has a specific block pattern quite difficult. To address this, a receiver architecture that exploits synchronization structure in a simple way is proposed.

A comparison of OFDM, QAM-FBMC, and OQAM-FBMC waveforms subject to phase noise
2017 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2017Frequencies above 6 GHz are being considered by mobile communication industry for the deployment of future 5G networks. However in the higher carrier frequencies, especially the millimeter-wave frequencies (above 30 GHz), there can be severe degradations in the transmitted and received signals due to Phase Noise (PN) introduced by the local oscillators.
