Spin-flux phase in the Kondo lattice model with classical localized spins
We provide numerical evidence that a spin-flux phase exists as a ground state of the Kondo lattice model with classical local spins on a square lattice. This state manifests itself as a double-Q magnetic order in the classical spins with spin density at ...

Mechanically induced fcc phase formation in nanocrystalline hafnium
A face-centered-cubic (fcc) phase was obtained in high-purity hafnium (Hf) metal powders subjected to mechanical milling in a high-energy SPEX shaker mill. X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy techniques were employed to evaluate the structural changes in the milled powder as a function of milling time. The effects of mechanical milling included a

High Entropy Wide‐Bandgap Borates with Broadband Luminescence and Large Nonlinear Optical properties
High‐entropy rare‐earth borates exhibit excellent nonlinear optical and broadband luminescence properties arising from multi‐component doping, chemical disorder, increased configurational entropy, and increased lattice and electronic anharmonicity. This formulation enabled us to obtain a large, environmentally stable single crystal with 3X higher laser‐

Properties of non-FCC hard-sphere solids predicted by density functional theory
The free energies of the FCC, BCC, HCP and Simple Cubic phases for hard spheres are calculated as a function of density using the Fundamental Measure Theory models of Rosenfeld et al (PRE 55, 4245 (1997)), Tarazona (PRL 84, 694 (2001)) and Roth et al (J.

A Cu‐based crystal‐glass composite with high‐density twins is identified by a fast screening technique using combinatorial sputtering together with XRD and nanoindentation mapping. This bamboo‐like structure demonstrates homogenous plastic flow and retains high strength during in situ high temperature tests, up to 1 GPa at 550°C, owing to those ...

2D Magnetic and Topological Quantum Materials and Devices for Ultralow Power Spintronics
2D magnets and topological quantum materials enable ultralow‐power spintronics by combining robust magnetic order with symmetry‐protected, Berry‐curvature‐driven transport. Fundamentals of 2D anisotropy and spin‐orbit‐coupling induced band inversion are linked to scalable growth and vdW stacking.

Phase stability of a eutectic high entropy alloy under extremes of pressures and temperatures
Additively manufactured high-entropy alloys are of interest because of their unique combination of high yield strength and large ductility achieved with far-from-equilibrium crystalline phases and micro/nanostructure morphology.

Emergent Gravity at a Lifshitz Point from a Bose Liquid on the Lattice
We propose a model with quantum bosons on the fcc lattice, which has a stable algebraic Bose liquid phase at low energy. We show that this phase is described by emergent quantum gravity at the Gaussian z = 3 Lifshitz fixed point in 3+1 dimensions.
