Phase formation kinetics of metastable fcc cobalt
The kinetics for phase formation of metastable face-centered cubic (fcc) cobalt is explored using a combination of epitaxial thin film deposition and first-principles calculations.

Stability of the fcc phase in shocked nickel up to 332 GPa. [PDF]
Abstract Despite making up 5–20 wt.% of Earth's predominantly iron core, the melting properties of elemental nickel at core conditions remain poorly understood, due largely to a dearth of experimental data. We present an in situ X-ray diffraction study performed on laser shock-compressed samples of bulk nickel, reaching pressures up to ~500 GPa.

Phase-field-crystal model for fcc ordering [PDF]
We develop and analyze a two-mode phase-field-crystal model to describe fcc ordering. The model is formulated by coupling two different sets of crystal density waves corresponding to <111> and <200> reciprocal lattice vectors, which are chosen to form triads so as to produce a simple free- energy landscape with coexistence of crystal and ...

Phonon instabilities in high-pressure bcc-fcc and the isostructural fcc-fcc phase transitions of Cs [PDF]
The phonon instabilities of cesium related to its pressure-induced $\mathrm{bcc}\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{to}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{fcc}}^{(1)}\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{to}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{fcc}}^{(2)}$ phase transitions are studied using the density-functional perturbation theory.

Mechanism of the fcc-to-hcp phase transformation in solid Ar [PDF]
We present an atomistic description of the fcc-to-hcp transformation mechanism in solid argon (Ar) obtained from transition path sampling molecular dynamics simulation. The phase transition pathways collected during the sampling for an 8000-particle system reveal three transition types according to the lattice deformation and relaxation details. In all

The distorted-fcc phase of samarium
Angle-dispersive x-ray powder diffraction experiments were performed on samarium metal up to 50 GPa. We report that the high-pressure distorted-fcc phase has the same hR24 structure observed in praseodymium, but, unlike praseodymium, samarium does not undergo a transition to a second distorted-fcc phase.

Kinetics of the allotropic hcp–fcc phase transformation in cobalt [PDF]
The allotropic, martensitic phase transformation (hcp → fcc) in cobalt was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) upon isochronal annealing at heating rates in the range from 10 K min−1 to 40 K min−1. The microstructural evolution was traced by optical microscopy and X-ray diffractometry.

The phase transformation behavior from metastable bcc-δ to fcc-γ in Fe–Mn–Si based shape memory alloy processed by laser powder bed fusion was investigated. Primary δ phase formed in this alloy due to the rapid cooling and fast solidification.
