Memory Vulnerability: A Case for Delaying Error Reporting

open access: yes, 2018
To face future reliability challenges, it is necessary to quantify the risk of error in any part of a computing system. To this goal, the Architectural Vulnerability Factor (AVF) has long been used for chips.

Multilevel modelling of mechanical properties of textile composites: ITOOL Project [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The paper presents an overview of the multi-level modelling of textile composites in the ITOOL project, focusing on the models of textile reinforcements, which serve as a basis for micromechanical models of textile composites on the unit cell level.

Efficient and accurate analysis of photon density of states for two-dimensional photonic crystals with omnidirectional light propagation

open access: yes, 2018
Omnidirectional light propagation in two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystals (PCs) has been investigated by extending the formerly developed 2D finite element analysis (FEA) of in-plane light propagation in which the corresponding band structure (BS) and ...

Magnetic Field Driven Microrobot Based on Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Hydrogel‐based magnetic microrobots synergize remote magnetic control with the biocompatibility of flexible hydrogels, emerging as promising tools for minimally invasive biomedicine. This enables remotely controllable, untethered navigation within complex biological microenvironments.

Computational study on microstructure evolution and magnetic property of laser additively manufactured magnetic materials

open access: yes, 2019
Additive manufacturing (AM) offers an unprecedented opportunity for the quick production of complex shaped parts directly from a powder precursor. But its application to functional materials in general and magnetic materials in particular is still at the

A Natural Major Module Confers the Trade‐Off between Phenotypic Mean and Plasticity of Grain Chalkiness in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals the genetic and molecular mechanisms controlling the general trade‐off between phenotypic mean and plasticity of grain chalkiness in rice and identifies two major external drivers (high temperature and wide grain) and a natural major module (GCP6‐MPC5) that control this trade‐off.

FGF9–FGFR2 Signaling via Osteocytes‐Preosteoblasts Crosstalks to Mediate Mechanotransduction‐Driven Intramembranous Osteogenesis in the Underdeveloped Maxilla

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies osteocyte‐derived FGF9 as a mechanosensitive factor that impairs osteogenesis in the underdeveloped maxilla by inducing FGFR2 nuclear translocation in preosteoblasts. Mechanical stimulation reduces FGF9 secretion, relieving its inhibitory effect. These findings reveal a novel osteocyte–preosteoblast FGF9–FGFR2 axis in craniofacial

Bioinspired Twisted Artificial Muscles with Enhanced Performance for Underwater Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A climbing plant‐inspired twisted artificial muscle (TAM) with a braided configuration and seal‐inspired thermal insulation enables high‐performance underwater actuation. Enhanced deformation, reduced heat dissipation, and rapid motion are validated through a bionic ray that exhibits straight and turning motions.
