Feasibility of self-directed learning in clerkships

Medical Teacher, 2013
Self-directed learning has been well described in preclinical settings. However, studies report conflicting results when self-directed initiatives are implemented in clinical clerkships. To explore the feasibility of self-directed learning stimulated by clinical encounter-cards (CECs) in clinical clerkships. Two focus groups of year-four and year-five ...

Feasibility of Symbolic Directions on Prescription Labels

Drug Intelligence & Clinical Pharmacy, 1979
This project presents the results of a study designed to evaluate the usefulness of graphic labels in assisting functionally illiterate patients to understand how and when to take medication. The project's results indicate that comprehension of symbolic directions did not increase as rapidly as comprehension of typed directions.

Electromagnetic Railgun Launchers: Direct Launch Feasibility

AIAA Journal, 1982
Considerable progress in understanding railgun operation, requirements, and limitations has been made. It appears that railguns may have potential application to space propulsion and direct launch. This paper discusses the state-of-the-art and expected capability of railgun systems.

A Drivable Method of Feasible Directions

SIAM Journal on Control, 1973
This paper presents a feasible directions algorithm for solving a general nonlinear programming problem. The algorithm is characterized by the fact that it is parametrized by functions. One may, through proper choice of the parametrizing maps, model the algorithm to optimize its behavior with respect to classes of problems.

An Efficient Method of Feasible Directions

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, 1983
This paper presents a new method of feasible directions which uses an efficient antizig-zagging scheme. At every iteration, the gradient of the cost function and the gradients of the active constraints (usually one) are computed, and the previously computed gradients of the almost active constraints are used to prevent zig-zagging.

The Auxiliary Problem for Feasible Directions

AIAA Journal, 1975
The present work compares the computational efficiency of two means of determining a direction vector S at constraint boundaries and demonstrates the advantages of using the alternative that formulates the S-determination subproblem with a single quadratic constraint, which in turn can be cast as a special linear problem and solved directly.

Direct Drive Accessories, Feasible by 1980?

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1970
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Direct drive turbine engine control components and airframe accessories are expected to be feasible by 1980. A comparison between a currently operational engine and a projected 1980 engine indicates a weight reduction of 11% and a frontal area reduction of 30% can be achieved by the use of direct drive components ...

Probabilistic version of the method of feasible directions

Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2002
This paper is a sequel of the results obtained by one of the authors [see \textit{J. Korychki} and \textit{M. Kostreva}, J. Optimization Theory 92, 311--330 (1994; Zbl 0886.90128) and 91, 389--418 (1996; Zbl 0883.90101)]. It is devoted to the discussion of random procedure that implements the solution of the non linear programming inequality ...

Feasible directions in economic policy

Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 1978
Zoutendijk's method of feasible directions is used in this paper to derive numerical control strategies for the United Kingdom economy. The way in which the algorithm permits an examination of the sensitivity of the optimum short-term economic policy to changes in various assumptions demonstrates the versatility of the algorithm.
