Biofibre Production from Chicken Feather

open access: yes, 2011
The global poultry industry generates at least 2 million tonnes of chicken feather every year. Feathers are currently hydrolysed into meal used for animal feed and fertilizer. Feather consists of 91% keratin, 1% lipid and 8% water.

Left Wanting and Left Unheard: A Dual Grievance Model of Populism Across Six European Countries

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Social Psychology, EarlyView.

New evidence of feathers in the Crato Formation supporting a reappraisal on the presence of Aves

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2011
The preservation of delicate structures such as feathers is very rare in the paleontological record, due to the fragility of their components. Fossil feathers have been reported from approximately 50 deposits around the world, from the Late Jurassic to ...

By‐product of heparin extraction as a sustainable alternative to enhance the use of nitrogen in agriculture

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract This study evaluates the potential of a new organic fertilizer derived from porcine intestinal mucosa (designated BHE), a by‐product of the heparin extraction process, as a sustainable nitrogen (N) source for agriculture. The work was conducted in two stages: (i) chemical and spectroscopic characterization of BHE compared with poultry litter ...

Notable Impact of Paleotectonic Stress on Gold Mineralisation in the West Qinling Orogen

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
By applying fuzzy clustering and multiple inverse methods, we systematically processed the data of vein and fault slip in this ore deposit to reveal the transition of orogenic geological environment and paleotectonic stress field. Our research results show two different stress states: the northwest–southeast extensional stress field and the northeast ...

Discordancy of two common methods of measuring feather hydrophobicity

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology
Feather structure contributes greatly to a birds' ability to repel water, which is essential for thermoregulation and energy use. Water repellency of feathers has traditionally been inferred by measuring a structural index based on the distance between ...
