The generative power of feature geometry [PDF]
This paper presents a formalization of the common structure underlying different proposals concerning the geometry of phonological features. Using the concepts and tools of elementary set theory, lattice theory, and the theory of independent Boolean algebras, ametatheory of autosegmental feature structure is developed.

On the Geometry of No-Boundary Instantons in Loop Quantum Cosmology
We study the geometry of Euclidean instantons in loop quantum cosmology (LQC) such as those relevant for the no-boundary proposal. Confining ourselves to the simplest case of a cosmological constant in minisuperspace cosmologies, we analyze solutions of ...

Feature geometry and palatalization
The paper examines palatalization data from English, Polish and Croatian in the framework of Feature Geometry. It is shown that palatalization in the discussed data results in a number of phonologically diverse outputs, which cannot be accounted for by ...

Feature-enriched hyperbolic network geometry
Graph-structured data provide an integrated description of complex systems, encompassing not only the interactions among nodes, but also the intrinsic features that characterize these nodes.

Contrastive Feature Typologies of Arabic Consonant Reflexes
Attempts to classify spoken Arabic dialects based on distinct reflexes of consonant phonemes are known to employ a mixture of parameters, which often conflate linguistic and non-linguistic facts.

Ants Learn Geometry and Features [PDF]
Rats trained to relocate a particular corner in a rectangular arena systematically confound the correct corner and the diametrically opposite one--this rotational error demonstrates the use of the geometry of space (i.e., the spatial arrangement of the different components of a visual scene).

Differential object marking in inanimate objects in Spanish
The aim of this paper is to explain the differential object marking (DOM) of inanimate objects in Spanish. Generally, animate objects in Spanish are marked with an A morpheme; however, it is possible for the A-marker to appear also with inanimate ...

Measuring sign complexity: Comparing a model-driven and an error-driven approach
The study of articulatory complexity has proven to yield useful insights into the phonological mechanisms of spoken languages. In sign languages, this type of knowledge is scarcely documented.

Harmony and disharmony in Mbat (Jarawan Bantu) verbs
This paper is the first to describe aspects of the vocalic phonology of Mbat, a Jarawan Bantu language. Mbat exhibits a series of vowel-consonant interactions in its verbs that sometimes yield height harmony between a stem and suffixal vowel.

Quantum Features of Non-Symmetric Geometries [PDF]
Paths in an appropriate geometry are usually used as trajectories of test particles in geometric theories of gravity. It is shown that non-symmetric geometries possess some interesting quantum features. Without carrying out any quantization schemes, paths in such geometries are naturally quantized.
