Quasi-Equilibrium Feature Pyramid Network for Salient Object Detection

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2022
Modern saliency detection models are based on the encoder-decoder framework and they use different strategies to fuse the multi-level features between the encoder and decoder to boost representation power. Motivated by recent work in implicit modelling, we propose to introduce an implicit function to simulate the equilibrium state of the feature ...

Von Economo Neuron Loss in Frontotemporal Dementia: A Meta‐Analysis of Neuropathological Studies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Von Economo neurons (VENs) have been reported to be vulnerable to neurodegeneration in frontotemporal dementia (FTD), particularly the behavioral variant (bvFTD), but these findings have not been systematically assessed across independent brain banks.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.

Movement Disorders in Aicardi–Goutières Syndrome and Response to Immunomodulation

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study characterizes movement disorders and treatment responses in seven children with Aicardi–Goutières syndrome (AGS). We retrospectively evaluated motor phenotypes, neuroimaging, and interferon signatures in patients treated with baricitinib or anifrolumab. Spasticity affected all patients, while dystonia was present in 4/7.

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Feature Pyramid Networks for Crowd Counting

open access: yesProcedia Computer Science, 2019
Abstract In this paper, we propose the use of Feature Pyramid Networks (FPN) for Crowd Counting problem. FPN previously has been used for retinanet, the state-of-the-art model for object detection. By using FPN, our proposed crowd counting model achieved a state-of-the-art performance for UCF CC 50 dataset with MAE 136.4 and MSE 223.6.

Phenomenological and Physically Based Modeling of Flow Stress and Strengthening Mechanism of Inconel 718

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nickel‐based alloys are widely used in high‐temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical strength and oxidation resistance. However, properties such as high‐temperature strength and pronounced work‐hardening make them difficult to machine.

Approximate Correspondences in High Dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Pyramid intersection is an efficient method for computing an approximate partial matching between two sets of feature vectors. We introduce a novel pyramid embedding based on a hierarchy of non-uniformly shaped bins that takes advantage of the underlying
