Abstract Background Cutibacterium acnes, a common anaerobic platelet concentrate (PC) contaminant, has been associated with rare mild adverse transfusion reactions and is often considered a harmless commensal. Notably, C. acnes can cause chronic infections and has been shown to induce the release of proinflammatory cytokines by immune cells.

Abstract Background Correct classification of transfusion reactions is important not only for effective patient care and donor management but also for accurate tracking of events in hemovigilance systems. We compared the ability of a generative artificial intelligence (AI) system to correctly diagnose hypothetical clinical situations as transfusion ...

The platelet storage lesion, what are we working for?
Some major biological response modifiers (BMRs) and the potential mechanisms of platelet storage lesions (PSLs). (1) During storage, platelet morphology transforms from discoid to sphere with pseudopodia and lysis at extended storage. (2) Changes in molecules on the surface are reduced G‐protein‐coupled protease‐activated receptors (PAR4), exposure and

Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia and repercussions on neurodevelopment: A systematic review
Abstract Background Accumulation of bilirubin above normal levels is considered a neurological risk factor for both premature and full‐term newborns. This systematic review aimed to determine the effect of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia on neurodevelopment in preterm and full‐term newborns.
