Burst Safety Analysis of Strengthened FeCrAl Claddings in APR1400 Fuel Rods Subject to LOCA Conditions

A computational framework is developed to evaluate the thermo‐mechanical performance of APR1400 fuel rods with FeCrAl claddings under normal and LOCA conditions. Results show that reducing the pellet‐cladding gap enhances heat conduction and burst safety, while an 80% strength enhancement in FeCrAl claddings improves burst safety by up to 80%.

FeCrAl cladding is a leading candidate for accident‐tolerant fuel technology. Here, in situ micropillar compression tests are performed on single‐crystal FeCrAl alloy grains at elevated temperatures. The critical resolved shear stresses of two primary slip systems are determined at various temperatures.

Modeling the Precipitation of Aluminum Nitride Inclusions during Solidification of High‐Aluminum Steels

A model for the evolution of size distributions of AlN inclusions during the solidification of steel is proposed. The model is applied in high‐Al steels and validated by experimental data in literature. The influence of cooling rates and Al and N concentrations on AlN precipitation is described by the model.
