Freshwater megafauna (i.e., freshwater animals ≥30 kg, including fishes, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians) are subject to intensive and increasing threats. Thirty‐four species are listed as critically endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
