Energetic cost of a meal in a frequent feeding lizard

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2003
Specific dynamic action (SDA) describes the rise in metabolism following feeding in animals and represents the energetic cost of digesting and assimilating a meal. The overall energetic cost of feeding may depend on whether or not an animal is post-absorptive at the time of feeding.

A cost‐benefit analysis of feeding in female tsetse

Medical and Veterinary Entomology, 1995
Abstract. Three models for feeding in female tsetse are considered. Model I: there is a prolonged non‐feeding phase after each meal followed by feeding at a constant rate, with a constant probability of dying as a consequence of feeding. Model II: the feeding rate increases linearly after each meal.

Energetic cost of feeding territories in an Hawaiian honeycreeper

Oecologia, 1976
By analysis of time budgets the daily energy expenditure in territorial individuals of a Hawaiian honeycreeper (Vestiaria coccinea, Fam. Drepanididae) were estimated during the nonbreeding season and compared to that of nonterritorial individuals. The mean rise in living costs was 2.3 kcal/24 h or 17% of the nonterritorial energy budget.

Beef Cattle Feeding Costs

Journal of Farm Economics, 1921
We have come to think of the phrase "beef cattle feeding" as referring to that short period in the animal's life during which it is confined within the limits of a few square feet upon a Corn Belt farm, and to consider the operation mainly with reference to the large quantities of highly concentrated farm products consumed by the animal.
