Developing negative split pacing in endurance athletes: practical guidelines and training models

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
Negative split pacing—finishing the second half of a race faster than the first—is a hallmark of elite endurance performance and a key indicator of physiological control, fatigue resistance, and strategic pacing literacy.

Neutrophil‐Mimetic MRI Enables Ultra‐Early Detection of Vascular Inflammation After Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed neutrophil‐mimetic MRI probes that detect ultra‐early neuroinflammation following ischemic stroke by targeting E‐selectin. Within seconds of their injection, these microparticles mimic initial leukocyte adhesion to the activated cerebral endothelium.

Evaluation of the Visual Environment of Community Third Places Based on Emotional Perceptions

open access: yesBuildings
A well-designed visual environment in community third places has significant positive effects on residents’ emotional well-being. Only a few studies have examined these effects; therefore, this study comprehensively explores the effect of the visual ...

Atomic Layer Deposition Processes: Versatile Platforms for Engineering ZnO‐Chitosan Biointerfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Vapour phase metalation (VPM), multiplied pulsed vapour phase infiltration (MPI), and O2 plasma‑enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) tailor Zn–chitosan (Zn‑CS) films. PEALD improves wettability and biocompatibility. MPI enhances semiconductor behavior. Antiseptic selectivity: VPM → E. coli; MPI → H. pylori.

A Principle of Nonlinear Feedback Action in Physiological Systems

open access: yesIFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1968
Abstract The changes in excitability associated with local responses of excitable membranes are discussed, from the point of view of their effects on the autorhythmic activity of nervous elements. Particular attention is given to the state of hypoexcitability created by a local response, for the purpose of presenting a mechanism by which the rate of ...

Augmented visual feedback counteracts the effects of surface muscular functional electrical stimulation on physiological tremor

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Recent studies suggest that surface muscular functional electrical stimulation (FES) might suppress neurological upper limb tremor. We assessed its effects on upper limb physiological tremor, which is mainly driven by mechanical-reflex ...

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...
