Felicity Conditions of Speech Acts
2023In this paper, we argue that both convention and intention are necessary for the explanation of baptism as a speech act. In the first part, we introduce the theory of speech acts, discussing Austin’s account of illocution and felicity. We provide context for the characterization of speech acts and conditions for their successful performance.
