Human and feline adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells have comparable phenotype, immunomodulatory functions, and transcriptome

open access: yesStem cell research & therapeutics, 2017
Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs) are a promising cell therapy to treat inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases. Development of appropriate pre-clinical animal models is critical to determine safety and attain early efficacy data for the ...

Rodent monocyte‐derived macrophages do not express CD163: Comparative analysis using macrophages from living boreoeutherians

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background CD163 is a scavenger receptor predominantly expressed on the surfaces of macrophages in various mammalian species and is a marker of anti‐inflammatory (M2‐like) macrophages. High density of CD163‐positive tumor‐associated macrophages (TAMs) is associated with worse prognosis in various patient tumors.

Serosurvey of mountain lions in southern Arizona

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2012
An understanding of the prevalence of diseases in free‐ranging populations of felids is limited, and there is even less known about the overall health and diseases of wild felids that inhabit or utilize urban areas.

Metabolic abnormalities and reprogramming in cats with naturally occurring hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1256-1270, April 2025.
Abstract Background and aims The heart is a metabolic organ rich in mitochondria. The failing heart reprograms to utilize different energy substrates, which increase its oxygen consumption. These adaptive changes contribute to increased oxidative stress.

LeishVet update and recommendations on feline leishmaniosis

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2015
Limited data is available on feline leishmaniosis (FeL) caused by Leishmania infantum worldwide. The LeishVet group presents in this report a review of the current knowledge on FeL, the epidemiological role of the cat in L.

The upside of epilepsy: Theories of an evolutionary paradox

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract The persistence of common, heritable conditions, like epilepsy, that are associated with reduced reproductive fitness is an evolutionary paradox. Endogenous analgesic, anti‐depressant, and inflammatory mechanisms able to repair compromised functions can offer advantages in unexpected crises.

Next‐Generation Sequencing of Fecal DNA: A Novel Insight Into the Mitogenome Phylogeography of the Snow Leopard (Panthera Uncia) 粪便dna的二代测序:对雪豹线粒体组谱系地理结构的新洞察

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, EarlyView.
This study provides an innovation to address the challenge in accessibility to samples and genetic markers in Snow leopard conservation genetic studies. We performed next‐generation sequencing (NGS) on 19 fecal samples obtained from the eastern Qinghai‐Tibet Plateau, and successfully assembled 17 complete mitogenome sequences (~16,720 bp) and ...

Improved malicious node detection method for detecting a bait in an extensive network for getting the maximum throughput

open access: yesIET Communications, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Mobile Ad‐hoc Network (MANET) is an ad hoc Wireless subset with a unique dynamic geometry of the system and movable nodes. The MANETs are auto‐organized networks that permit mobility without infrastructure. Specific protocols for MANET routing are provided with these attributes.
