Evaluation of feline mesenchymal stem cell susceptibility to feline viruses

open access: yesScientific Reports
Feline mesenchymal stem cells (fMSCs) are well known for their robust differentiation capabilities and are commonly used in studying immune-related diseases in cats.

Feline Herpesvirus Infection: ABCD Guidelines on Prevention and Management

open access: yes, 2009
Overview Feline viral rhinotracheitis, caused by feline herpesvirus (FHV), is an upper respiratory tract disease that is often associated with feline calicivirus and bacteria.

Relationships Between European Wildcats and Domestic Cats in an Area of Sympatry: Exploring Key Conservation Questions on Hybridization and Disease Transmission

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 29, Issue 3, Page 321-333, June 2026.
We have found evidence of behavioural barriers for both hybridization and disease transmission between European wildcats and domestic cats. This includes hierarchical interspecies exclusion enforced by wildcats, as well as sexual selection exerted by wildcat females.

Epidemiological Investigation of Feline Upper Respiratory Tract Infection Encourages a Geographically Specific FCV Vaccine

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2023
A total of 1158 cats with feline upper respiratory tract infection were incorporated from twenty animal hospitals in Wuhan, China, from April 2019 to April 2022 to investigate the epidemiology of feline calicivirus (FCV), herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1 ...

Clinical and computed tomographic characteristics of conjunctival large cell lymphoma in a cat

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract This case report describes a 12‐year‐old, female, neutered domestic shorthair cat presenting with an acute, diffuse, non‐resolving mass‐like lesion affecting the right conjunctiva. Despite an initial conscious snip biopsy result negative for malignancy and contrast‐enhanced computed tomography findings suggestive of sino‐orbital aspergillosis,

Silent pressure: Unveiling spinal lymphoma in horses and its parallels to other species

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, Volume 38, Issue 5, Page 231-234, May 2026.
Summary Though the nervous system is an uncommon location for lymphoma, the disease should remain a differential diagnosis in some cases of ataxia in equids. Diagnosis of lymphoma can be challenging, although a combination of cytology, histopathology and immunophenotyping can aid in definitive diagnosis and therefore more accurately guide treatment and

Simulated Microgravity Causes Faster Replication During Acute Infection of ME49‐Toxoplasma Gondii and Alterations in Host Cells

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, Volume 8, Issue 4, April 2026.
Simulated microgravity (SMG) alters the growth and morphology of host cells and induces parasite replication during acute T. gondii infection. In this study, we examined host cells and Type II T. gondii using a 3D clinostat. Increased number of host cells and multicellular spheroids observed in Vero cells and HFF.

Isolation of feline herpesvirus-1 and feline calicivirus from healthy cats in Swedish breeding catteries

open access: yesJournal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, 2005
Feline calicivirus (FCV) could be isolated from four cats (2.6%) and feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV) from none of 152 clinically healthy cats from 22 Swedish breeding catteries. These cats had all previously shown signs of respiratory tract disease or conjunctivitis, although several years ago.

Development of a triple NanoPCR method for feline calicivirus, feline panleukopenia syndrome virus, and feline herpesvirus type I virus

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2022
Background Feline calicivirus (FCV), Feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), and Feline herpesvirus type I (FHV-1) are the three most common pathogens in cats, and also are the main pathogens leading to the death of kittens.

Epigenetic Signatures of Ageing in Asian Elephants Revealed by Reduced Representation Bisulphite Sequencing

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Accurate age estimation is essential for understanding life‐history variation, modelling population dynamics and informing conservation strategies, yet remains challenging for long‐lived species. Here, we developed a genome‐wide DNA methylation‐based epigenetic clock for Asian elephants (Elephas maximus), an endangered species, using reduced ...
