Uncovering correlates of decline and critical refuges for a threatened terrestrial mammal
Abstract Globally, the geographic ranges of numerous species are contracting. Identifying spatiotemporal patterns of threat impact can illuminate why species decline in some parts of their range but persist in others. We developed a correlative approach to identify species’ response thresholds and locate ecological refuge areas associated with ...

Duodenal microanatomy of the domestic cat (Felis catus).
Duodenal samples were taken from similar locations in six cats, processed, stained, and examined via light microscope. There were no prominent circular folds (plicae circulares) or stratum compactum (lamina subglandularis). The 1072 microns x 201 microns villi were covered by 46 microns high columnar epitheliocytes proximally which decreased in height (

Summary Evidence for the ongoing biodiversity crisis rests on assessment of a small fraction of described species, with major knowledge gaps for most organisms, including plants. Here, we highlight how digitised herbarium specimens can be used to accelerate and improve estimates of recent and ongoing plant extinctions.
