Trace Elements and Metallothionein in Liver and Kidney of Felis catus

Biological Trace Element Research, 2009
Trace metals such as Zn, Cu, and Fe are essential for life; differently, no biochemical function is known for Cd. Changes in dietary metal concentrations can cause deficiency or toxicity. Studies on trace elements in cat are lacking. This paper aimed to analyze Zn, Cu, Fe and Cd concentrations in liver and kidney of pathological domestic cat and to ...

Communal nursing in the domestic cat,Felis catus

Journal of Ethology, 1987
Communal nursing in the domestic cat has been observed in group living conditions. (In high density conditions, cats have social lives.) In our laboratory, when females were kept in the same cage, they delivered kittens nearly simultaneously, and started to nurse their kittens communally. This process, which was videotaped, was shown to be begun by the

Artificial insemination in domestic cats (Felis catus)

Theriogenology, 2006
Artificial insemination (AI) in cats represents an important technique for increasing the contribution of genetically valuable individuals in specific populations, whether they be highly pedigreed purebred cats, medically important laboratory cats or endangered non-domestic cats.

Isozyme activities in the domestic cat (Felis catus)

Animal Blood Groups and Biochemical Genetics, 1973
SummaryHorizontal starch‐gel electrophoresis was performed on domestic cat blood and stained for 6‐phosphogluconic dehydrogenase (6‐PGD), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and tetrazolium oxidase. A polymorphism was found for 6‐PGD; LDH and tetrazolium oxidase were monomorphic. These systems were tested on cats of English, Mexican and American origin.

Preservation of tomcat (Felis catus) semen in variable temperatures

Animal Reproduction Science, 2007
The aim of our study was to estimate the viability of cat epididymal sperm in short time storage at +4 degrees C and in long term storage at -196 degrees C and to assess the percentage of live sperm in fresh semen using eosin/nigrosin staining compared to the flow cytometry method.

The Domestic Cat, Felis catus

1975
The cat (Felis catus or domesticus) is one of the few carnivores which have been investigated to any depth. The majority of known mutants affect coat color, although a number of interesting monogenic anomalies have been reported. Most of the color mutants are available in fancy-breed cats, together with the long hair, rexoid coat, and the Manx ...

Object permanence and working memory in cats (Felis catus).

Journal of Experimental Psychology: Animal Behavior Processes, 1994
Cats (Felis catus) find an object when it is visibly moved behind a succession of screens. However, when the object is moved behind a container and is invisibly transferred from the container to the back of a screen, cats try to find the object at or near the container rather than at the true hiding place.

Inherited Tremor in the Domestic Cat, Felis catus L.

Nature, 1970
THE only reported case of an inherited disturbance of neurological function in cats other than deafness is ataxia resulting from cerebellar hypoplasia1. Kilham and Margolis2, however, have confirmed suggestions of Verlinde and others3 that most cases, if not all, are of viral origin.
