The Unfitted Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Solving the EEG Forward Problem [PDF]
Objective: The purpose of this study is to introduce and evaluate the unfitted discontinuous Galerkin finite element method (UDG-FEM) for solving the electroencephalography (EEG) forward problem. Methods: This new approach for source analysis does not use a geometry conforming volume triangulation, but instead uses a structured mesh that does not ...

Analyzing the Total Structural Intensity in Beams Using a Homodyne Laser Doppler Vibrometer
The total structural intensity in beams can be considered as composed of three types of waves: bending, longitudinal, and torsional. In passive and active control applications, it is useful to separate each of these components in order to evaluate their ...

Minimization of Energy Functionals via FEM: Implementation of hp-FEM
Many problems in science and engineering can be rigorously recast into minimizing a suitable energy functional. We have been developing efficient and flexible solution strategies to tackle various minimization problems by employing finite element discretization with P1 triangular elements [1,2].

Validation of finite element and boundary element methods for predicting structural vibration and radiated noise [PDF]
Analytical and experimental validation of methods to predict structural vibration and radiated noise are presented. A rectangular box excited by a mechanical shaker was used as a vibrating structure.

A coupled FEM/DEM approach for hierarchical multiscale modelling of granular media
A hierarchical multiscale framework is proposed to model the mechanical behaviour of granular media. The framework employs a rigorous hierarchical coupling between the FEM and the discrete element method (DEM).

FEM and CIP-FEM for Helmholtz Equation with High Wave Number and PML truncation [PDF]
The Helmholtz scattering problem with high wave number is truncated by the perfectly matched layer (PML) technique and then discretized by the linear continuous interior penalty finite element method (CIP-FEM). It is proved that the truncated PML problem satisfies the inf--sup condition with inf--sup constant of order $O(k^{-1})$.
