In this chapter, finite element (FE) equations for plates and shells are developed. The procedure is to first develop FE matrices for plate elements, and the FE matrices for shell elements are then obtained by superimposing the matrices for plate elements and those for 2D solid plane stress elements.

Two-scale modeling of granular materials: A FEM-FEM approach
Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering, 2013In the present paper, a homogenization-based two-scale FEM-FEM model is developed to simulate compactions of visco-plastic granular assemblies. The granular structure consisting of two-dimensional grains is modeled by the microscopic finite element method at the small-scale level, and the homogenized viscous assembly is analyzed by the macroscopic ...

The paper is concerned with the numeric procedure in plate bending. For numeric procedure the finite element method is used. Calibration force is determined when bending force and calibration coefficient are known. The calibration coefficient is determined by experiment.

Lower Bound of Vibration Modes Using the Node-Based Smoothed Finite Element Method (NS-FEM)
, 2017The smoothed finite element method (S-FEM) has been recently developed as an effective solver for solid mechanics problems. This paper represents an effective approach to compute the lower bounds of vibration modes or eigenvalues of elasto-dynamic ...

Programming the Fem For Beam, Plate and Shell Analysis in Mat-fem
2013We present in this chapter the implementation of several of the elements for beam, plate and shell analysis studied in this book in the MAT-fem code environment written using the MATLAB® and GiD programming tools [On4]. MAT-fem includes several codes for FEM analysis of different structures.
