Poles Apart: Monosporic, Bisporic, and Tetrasporic Embryo Sacs Revisited
Bisporic embryo sacs contain nuclei derived from two members of a megaspore tetrad whereas tetrasporic embryo sacs contain nuclei derived from all four members of a tetrad.

Female gametophyte expression.
MA plots (log expression ratio vs. mean average expression) comparing female gametophyte gene expression (as KEGG-annotated genes) under vegetative growth (d0) with gametogenic conditions after a) 1 d, b) 6 d, and c) 8 d in WL.

Female gametophyte and pollen tube of Epilobium palustre L.
The monosporic, tetranucleate embryo sac of Epilobium palustre (Onagraceae) develops from the micropylar megaspore in a linear tetrad. In mononucleate embryo sacs a peculiar chromatic structure associated with a nucleolus appears in the nucleus.
