The ratio between the screw distance and femoral neck width on lateral radiography is a reliable predictor of femoral head necrosis: a clinical review and corresponding numerical simulations

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research
Background Fixation instability serves as an initial trigger for femoral head necrosis in patients with femoral neck fractures undergoing internal fixation. The configuration of screw trajectories is critical in determining the stability of the fixation.

Autologous concentrated bone marrow injection for precollapse osteonecrosis of the femoral head concurrent with contralateral total hip arthroplasty: protocol for a clinical trial

open access: yesBMJ Open
Introduction The femoral head contralateral to the collapsed femoral head requiring total hip arthroplasty (THA) often manifests in the precollapse stage of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH).

Eosinophils‐Induced Lumican Secretion by Synovial Fibroblasts Alleviates Cartilage Degradation via the TGF‐β Pathway Mediated by Anxa1 Binding

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Eosinophils play a crucial role in the progression of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA). This study demonstrates that eosinophils, induced by OVA/IL‐5, promote Lumican secretion in the synovium, which binds to Annexin A1 in chondrocytes, inhibiting transforming growth factor β2 and Smad2/3 phosphorylation.

Use of Trochanteric Flip Osteotomy Improves the Outcome of Pipkin I and II Femoral Head Fractures

open access: yesJournal of Gandaki Medical College, 2018
Introduction: Annual incidence of femoral head fracture is constantly increasing due to increase in cases of road traffic accidents (RTA). Four to 17% of femoral head fractures are due to posterior dislocations of hip.

Synergistic Modulating of Mitochondrial Transfer and Immune Microenvironment to Attenuate Discogenic Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gallic acid (GA) and copper ions self‐assemble to form nanoparticles, which are then modified with mitochondrial targeting peptides and gap junction modulator. These nanoparticles scavenge mitochondrial reactive oxygen species to induce M2 polarization and enhance intercellular mitochondrial transfer.

A feasibility study for predicting optimal radiation therapy dose distributions of prostate cancer patients from patient anatomy using deep learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
With the advancement of treatment modalities in radiation therapy for cancer patients, outcomes have improved, but at the cost of increased treatment plan complexity and planning time. The accurate prediction of dose distributions would alleviate this issue by guiding clinical plan optimization to save time and maintain high quality plans.

Hypothalamus Regulates Anabolic Metabolism of Articular Cartilage Superficial Chondrocytes through PGE2 Skeletal Interoception

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hypothalamus sympathetic norepinephrine inhibits regeneration of articular cartilage. Mechanical loading on bone during animal activity elevates PGE2 skeletal interoception to promote an anabolic renewal of the superficial membrane by downregulation of norepinephrine for articular cartilage proper thickness and integrity.
