The Femoral Neck‐Shaft Offset: A Key Element in the Reconstruction of Intertrochanteric Fracture

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Anteromedial cortex reduction and accurate placement of the cephalomedullary nail is the key point to confront implant failure of intertrochanteric fractures. This study aimed to investigate the effect of FNSO on anteromedial cortex reduction and accurate placement of the cephalomedullary nail for intertrochanteric fractures.

Management of Hip Arthroplasty for Intertrochanteric Fractures Under the Treatment Concept of Periprosthetic Fractures

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Anatomical images of the front (A) and back (B); the black lines indicated the muscles. One cable in “figure‐of‐eight” and another looped over the lesser trochanter were across the muscles to maintain reduction and resist traction. ABSTRACT Objective Intertrochanteric fractures (IF) in the elderly are often complicated by osteoporosis and high rates of

Long‐Term Outcomes of Triple Cannulated Compression Screws Combined With Bone Graft Sleeve Parallel Implantation of DBM Crunch Internal Fixation for the Treatment of Femoral Neck Fractures in Middle‐Aged and Young Adults

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This study compared the therapeutic effects of two internal fixation methods, including triple cannulated screws combined with a bone graft sleeve for parallel implantation of DBM Crunch internal fixation (CCSBGS), and cannulated compression screws (CCS). Fracture reduction and CCS fixation were the same as those in the CCS group.

Radiographic Predictors of Leg Shortening After Curved Intertrochanteric Varus Osteotomy in Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This study investigated the factors contributing to leg shortening after curved intertrochanteric varus osteotomy during both the early postoperative phase and the healing phase up to bone union in patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head. ABSTRACT Purpose Curved intertrochanteric varus osteotomy (CVO) is a joint‐preserving option for young ...

Effect of Spinal Versus General Anesthetic on 30‐Day Outcomes in Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Undergoing Hip Arthroplasty for Femoral Neck Fracture

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
The purpose of this study was to compare 30‐day complications between use of general and spinal anesthetic in patients with COPD and femoral neck fractures who underwent hip arthroplasty. Patients undergoing general anesthesia had a higher incidence of 30‐day mortality, hospital readmission, and surgical and medical complications.
