A systematic review of undisplaced femoral neck fracture treatments for patients over 65 years of age, with a focus on union rates and avascular necrosis

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2017
BackgroundIt remains unclear whether conservative treatment should be used to treat the common undisplaced femoral neck fractures that develop in the elderly.

From 2D to 3D gamma passing rate tolerance and action limits for patient‐specific quality assurance in volumetric‐modulated arc therapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) requires an accurate patient‐specific quality assurance (PSQA) program. In clinical practice, this is usually performed using the γ‐index and the two‐dimensional gamma passing rate (2D %GP). A three‐dimensional (3D) index incorporating the patient anatomy could be more useful for the 3D dose ...

Measuring brain beats: Cardiac‐aligned fast functional magnetic resonance imaging signals

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 44, Issue 1, Page 280-294, January 2023., 2023
Blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pulse and flow throughout the brain, driven by the cardiac cycle. We use rapid functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) measurements to assess blood and CSF flow dynamics in a conventional 3 T magnetic resonance imaging scanner.

Investigations of Helmholtz Resonators with Curved Tapered Embedded Neck Extension [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In this study, the performance of Helmholtz resonators with curved tapered neck extensions was investigated through numerical and experimental methods. A numerical parametric analysis was carried out using the Finite Element Method with COMSOL, while experimental validation was conducted using a two-microphone acoustic impedance tube.

Evaluating the use of diagnostic CT with flattening filter free beams for palliative radiotherapy: Dosimetric impact of scanner calibration variability

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Palliative radiotherapy comprises a significant portion of the radiation treatment workload. Volumetric‐modulated arc therapy (VMAT) improves dose conformity and, in conjunction with flattening filter free (FFF) delivery, can decrease treatment times, both of which are desirable in a population with a high probability of retreatment ...

An objective analysis of composite free flap donor site morbidity in head and neck surgery: Prospective series

open access: yesHead &Neck, Volume 45, Issue 2, Page 398-408, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Background A poor evidence basis exists regarding the objective donor site morbidity associated with osseous free flap harvest. This study prospectively assessed the objective donor site morbidity associated with osseous free flap harvest for the fibula, scapula, and iliac crest (DCIA) donor sites.

Herniation pit of the femoral neck [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Roentgenology, 1982
A round to oval radiolucency surrounded by a thin zone of sclerosis is often identified in the proximal superior quadrant of adult femoral necks. Although usually recognized as incidental and benign, these radiolucencies may be of clinical concern in patients with hip symptoms. The true nature and genesis of these radiolucencies have not been explained.

Geometric and dosimetric evaluation of a commercial AI auto‐contouring tool on multiple anatomical sites in CT scans

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Current radiotherapy practices rely on manual contouring of CT scans, which is time‐consuming, prone to variability, and requires highly trained experts. There is a need for more efficient and consistent contouring methods. This study evaluated the performance of the Varian Ethos AI auto‐contouring tool to assess its potential integration into

A Python package for fast GPU‐based proton pencil beam dose calculation

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Open‐source GPU‐based Monte Carlo (MC) proton dose calculation algorithms provide high speed and unparalleled accuracy but can be complex to integrate with new applications and remain slower than GPU‐based pencil beam (PB) methods, which sacrifice some physical accuracy for sub‐second plan calculation.

Treatment of the femoral neck peudoarthrosis in childhood: Case report [PDF]

open access: yesSrpski Arhiv za Celokupno Lekarstvo, 2013
Introduction. Femoral neck fractures in children and adolescents are rare. However, their complications are frequent - avascular necrosis, femoral neck pseudoarthrosis, premature physeal closure with consequent growth disturbance and coxa vara ...
