Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy, 2013
The patient was a 19-year-old woman who recently completed a military basic training program. She was evaluated by a physical therapist in a direct-access capacity for a chief complaint of anterior right hip pain that limited her ability to run. Due to the limited sensitivity of radiographs, magnetic resonance imaging of the right hip was obtained ...

The Treatment of Fractures of the Femoral Neck
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1993Fifty-four femoral neck fractures in young adults (20-50 years old; Group I) were compared with 397 fractures in the elderly population (older than 60 years of age; Group III). Patients in Group I were more frequently men and had often sustained vertical shear fractures in high-energy injuries.

Stress Fractures of the Femoral Neck
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1998Stress fractures of the femoral neck are uncommon injuries. In general these injuries are seen in two distinct populations: (1) young, healthy, active individuals such as recreational runners, endurance athletes, or military recruits; and (2) the elderly who have osteoporosis.

Surgical interventions consisting of internal fixation (IF) or total hip replacement (THR) are required to restore patient mobility after hip fractures. Conventionally, this decision was based solely upon the degree of fracture displacement. However, in the last ten years, there has been a move to incorporate patient characteristics into the decision ...

Coxarthrosis and Femoral Neck Fracture
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1992A retrospective cross-sectional study of the roentgenograms of 300 hip fracture patients and 300 age- and gender-matched controls was performed to determine the relationship between fracture type, femoral neck trabecular bone integrity (as measured by the Singh index), osteoarthrosis, and age.

Femoral neck fracture: a complication of femoral nailing
Injury, 1995A fracture of the shaft of the femur in adults is common after road traffic accidents. Until recently it was not known that a fracture of the femoral neck can occur while fixing the femoral shaft fracture with an intramedullary nail. We report three patients in whom femoral neck fractures occurred during femoral nailing.

Femoral neck stress fractures are unusual but not rare athletic injuries. In one large series they accounted for 5% of all stress fractures. Early recognition of the signs and symptoms of this injury is important, as objective findings are often delayed. The potential problems from this fracture are serious.
