An Impacted Fracture of the Femoral Neck
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1970Dr. Butler: The case for today is an impacted fracture of the femoral neck. It will be presented in several parts with discussion after each. A 43-year-old woman slipped and fell on the ice on Jan 1, 1969, landing on her left hip. Internal fixation of transcervical hip fractures does not ensure union; surgical intervention may reduce an already compromised blood supply. Moreover, a number of factors are known to retard healing of hip fractures, including suboptimal contact and immobilization of the fragments, the presence of synovial fluid at the fracture site, and the lack of ...

Undisplaced Femoral Neck Fracture
JAMA, 1964Dr. W. H. Harris: At the age of 14, an otherwise healthy girl sustained an injury to her right hip when she fell from a chair. She was unable to walk because of the pain of the hip, but when she was at rest, her hip was comfortable. A report is presented on 25 fatigue fractures of the femoral neck in 20-year-old military recruits with an otherwise healthy skeleton. The problems of diagnosis are described. Principles for the treatment of these stress fractures are elaborated on the basis of pathophysiological considerations and of the clinical experience.

Fatigue Fracture of the Femoral Neck
The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1966Forty-one fatigue fractures of the femoral neck in thirty-six patients are presented and analyzed. All occurred in men undergoing the first eight weeks of basic infantry training (with an average age of twenty-two and one-half years). The right hip was involved in eighteen patients and the left in thirteen; five had bilateral fractures.

The transepiphyseal fracture of the femoral neck
Injury, 1980A patient with a transepiphyseal fracture of the femoral neck is described. The prognosis is known to be poor. Nevertheless, it is suggested that an attempt at an anatomical reduction should be made to aid an arthrodesis or reconstructive procedure at a later stage if necessary.

Bilateral fractures of the femoral neck
Injury, 1982This study has analysed 500 patients admitted with fractures of the femoral neck. Fifty-three (10.6 per cent) had previously fractured the opposite hip. Thirty-eight per cent had fractured the second side within 1 year of the original fracture, and 74 per cent had initially sustained an intracapsular lesion.
