Surgical Treatments for Femoral Shaft Fractures: A Narrative Review [PDF]

open access: yesMalaysian Orthopaedic Journal, 2023
Femoral shaft fractures are increasingly common due to various traumatic injuries. Intramedullary nail (IMN) is considered the gold standard treatment for these fractures, but comorbidities often require thorough trauma life support and intensive care ...

Fractures of the femoral shaft in children [PDF]

open access: greenPostgraduate Medical Journal, 1969
Summary A series of 133 fractures of the shaft of the femur in children (during the first 12 years) is discussed. The injury is much more common in boys. The highest incidence is in 3-year-old children. A gentle reduction is desirable and anaesthesia is rarely necessary.

Femoral shaft medialisation and neck-shaft angle in unstable pertrochanteric femoral fractures [PDF]

open access: greenInternational Orthopaedics, 2004
We analysed the time-dependent mean changes in the femoral neck length, neck-shaft angle and hip offset in a randomised study comprising 48 patients who were treated with the dynamic hip screw (DHS) or the proximal femoral nail (PFN) for an unstable intertrochanteric femoral fracture.

Inverse relationship between femoral lateralization and neck-shaft angle is a joint event after intramedullary nailing of per trochanteric fractures

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
This study explored the relationship between femoral lateralization and femoral neck-shaft angle after intramedullary nail (IM) fixation for per trochanteric fractures. 70 patients (AO/OTA 31A1-2) were investigated. Anteroposterior (AP) and lateral X-ray

Neglected fracture shaft femur presenting with pseudoaneurysm: a case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
A pseudoaneurysm is a collection of blood leaking from a damaged arterial wall. Development of the false aneurysm is due to either initial injury of the vessel or is a complication of internal fixation of the femoral fracture.

Long-term analysis of chronic pain associated with lower extremity injuries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
INTRODUCTION The main objective of this study is to examine chronic pain and limping in relation to lower extremity and pelvic fracture location in addition to fracture combinations if multiple fractures are present on the same leg that have not been ...

Differences in femoral neck shaft angles between anteroposterior X-ray and 3-dimensional CT reconstruction images: report of 265 cases

open access: yesDi-san junyi daxue xuebao, 2020
Objective To explore the differences in measurement result of femoral neck shaft angle between anteroposterior X-ray film and 3-dimensional CT reconstruction image, and investigate the main related factors that lead to the differences.

Adult traumatic femoral shaft fractures: A review of the literature

open access: yesIbom Medical Journal, 2012
Background: Fractures of the shaft of the femur are common. Injuries leading to femoral shaft fractures are equally common. The femur presents itself to these injuries more than any other bone in the body.

Ex vivo estimation of cementless femoral stem stability using an instrumented hammer [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Biomechanics, Elsevier, 2020, 76, pp.105006, 2020
Background 15 The success of cementless hip arthroplasty depends on the primary stability of the femoral stem. It remains difficult to assess the optimal number of impacts to guarantee the femoral stem stability while avoiding bone fracture. The aim of this study is to validate a method using a hammer instrumented with a force sensor to monitor the ...
