Femoral Shaft Fractures

2020
Femoral shaft fractures (FSF) occur in young adults following high-energy trauma. They may present with other life-threatening associated injuries. Their initial management should be carried out according to ATLS guidelines. In contrast, in the elderly population, these fractures result following trivial injuries due to the underlying bone fragility ...

Femoral shaft fractures

Trauma, 2003
Femoral shaft fractures are not only significant injuries in their own right but also often a marker for multiple, serious injuries elsewhere. The treatment in adults is usually surgical. The results are for the most part good, but are dependent on the degree of injury to the local soft tissues and on the presence or absence of other distant injuries.

Femoral Shaft Fractures

2009
Fractures of the shaft of the femur including the subtrochanteric and the supracondylar regions account for 1.6% of all fractures in children. The boy-to-girl ratio is 2.3:1, a ratio which may change in the future as girls participate in contact sports like soccer.

[Femoral shaft fractures].

Der Unfallchirurg, 2019
Femoral shaft fractures after completion of growth predominantly affect young people with healthy bones. The causes are mostly high-velocity traffic accidents, crushing or running over mechanisms and falls from a great height. Gunshot wounds are relatively rare in Germany but have a certain importance internationally and in military medicine ...

Simultaneous Bilateral Femoral Shaft Fractures

The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1992
Simultaneous bilateral femoral shaft fractures are unusual injuries caused by severe force and are usually associated with multiple injuries. There are few reports in the literature. From December 1986 to April 1989, there were 21 consecutive adult (greater than 16 years old) bilateral femoral shaft fracture cases treated at our hospital. The incidence

Femoral Shaft Fracture

2017
Various common injuries in the pelvis and lower extremity are investigated in this chapter. Significant attention is paid not only to proper diagnostic examination and imaging, but also to optimal nonoperative and operative treatment options to manage these conditions.

Femoral Shaft Fractures

2017
Femoral shaft fractures are typically the result of a high-energy mechanism such as a motor vehicle accident but can also be associated with falls in the elderly. Femur fractures are often associated with other fractures or head trauma; thus, a thorough physical exam should be performed to assess for these injuries.

Femoral Shaft Fractures

2018
Femoral shaft fractures occur in a bimodal distribution, resulting from high energy trauma in young patients and lower energy mechanisms in older patients. In cases of high energy trauma, the orthopedic surgeon must have a high suspicion for associated injuries, some of which may be subtle due to the distracting nature of the femur fracture.

Quadricepsplasty following femoral shaft fractures

Injury, 1993
The results of 12 quadricepsplasties performed on 10 patients with stiff knees following united femoral shaft fractures are reviewed. All fractures were caused by high-velocity road traffic accidents and were associated with a variety of features which led to multiple operations and delayed union.
