Femoral vein access

Operative Techniques in General Surgery, 2001
A ccess to the central venous system can be readily achieved by percutaneous puncture of the jugular, subclavian, or femoral vein. Although the femoral vein can be easily found in most patients, many physicians are more familiar with approaches to the jugular or the subclavian vein.

Comparison of Subdavian Vein With Femoral Vein Catheterization for Hemodialysis

American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 1983
Subclavian vein catheterization (SVC) is not widely accepted for vascular access because it is considered more invasive than femoral vein catheterization (FVC). The use of FVC and SVC for acute vascular access was compared for 9 mo each. Complications were minimal with both, but access related hospitalizations were lower and the number of out-patient ...

In situ Femoral to Popliteal Bypass Graft Using Superficial Femoral Vein to Popliteal Vein

The American Surgeon, 2004
During the evolution of vascular surgery as a specialty, many conduits have been used to revascularize the lower extremities. Superficial veins and prosthetic materials make up the majority of materials used to bypass diseased segments of native artery. The deep veins of the thigh have also been reported as alternatives for arterial bypass.

Use of a Superficial Femoral Artery Autograft as a Femoral Vein Replacement

Annals of Vascular Surgery, 2015
Posttraumatic arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are common complications of vascular penetrating trauma. Here we present a case of a 59-year-old woman who had a history of gunshot injury 42 years ago causing AVF between superficial femoral artery (SFA) and superficial femoral vein (SFV). SFV was resected. Ipsilateral SFA was used to restore SFV.

Leiomyosarcoma of the femoral vein.

Canadian Association of Radiologists journal = Journal l'Association canadienne des radiologistes, 1992
Soft-tissue masses uncommonly completely occlude or engulf a major vessel. Complete occlusion of a major vein suggests that the mass originates in the wall of the vein. Such tumours are rare, the most frequently encountered type being leiomyosarcoma. The authors present a case of leiomyosarcoma of the femoral vein.
