Therapeutic Exercise Approaches to Nonoperative and Postoperative Management of Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome.

open access: yesJournal of athletic training, 2020
Femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) is characterized by premature contact of the femur and acetabulum during hip motion. Morphologic variations of FAIS present as either aspherical femoral deformity (cam femoroacetabular impingement) or ...

Using Dynamic Joint Space During Physiological Loading to Objectively Measure Hip Stability

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, Volume 43, Issue 9, Page 1666-1672, September 2025.
ABSTRACT An objective measurement of hip stability during functional loading is needed to improve diagnosis, guide treatment decisions, and evaluate intervention success. This study aimed to develop a reference measurement for stable hips based upon dynamic minimum hip joint space (HJS) in healthy young adults.

A Less-Invasive Technique for Capsular Management During Hip Arthroscopy for Femoroacetabular Impingement

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, 2014
The aim of this work is to describe a new arthroscopic technique for the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement that allows a complete articular joint view with maximum protection of the capsuloligamentous complex.

Labral calcification plays a key role in hip pain and symptoms in femoroacetabular impingement

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2020
Background Hip osteoarthritis (HOA) is the most common hip disorder and a major cause of disability in the adult population, with an estimated prevalence of end-stage disease and total hip replacement.

Clinical Diagnosis of Femoroacetabular Impingement

open access: yesJournal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2013
The diagnosis of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome is made based on a combination of clinical symptoms, physical examination findings, and imaging studies. A detailed assessment of each of these components is important to differentiate FAI from other intra- and extra-articular hip disorders.

Early results of surgery for femoroacetabular impingement in patients with osteonecrosis of femoral head

open access: yesSICOT-J, 2018
Purpose: Femoroacetabular impingement and its surgical treatment have not been described before in osteonecrosis of femoral head. We present here outcomes of 15 patients with femoroacetabular impingement secondary to osteonecrosis of femoral head.

Minimal Clinically Important Differences in Conservative Treatment Versus Hip Arthroscopy for Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome: A Frequentist Meta‐Analysis of RCTs

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 9, Page 2514-2528, September 2025.
This meta‐analysis of 7 RCTs (973 patients) compared hip arthroscopy (HAS) with conservative treatment for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome. HAS showed significantly higher post‐intervention functional MCID (+0.85) and iHOT at ≤ 12 months (+10.74). No differences were found in HOS‐ADL at ≤ 8 months.

Predictors of Outcomes After Hip Arthroscopic Surgery for Femoroacetabular Impingement: A Systematic Review

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2019
Background: The benefits of hip arthroscopic surgery in the setting of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) have been well established; however, some patients may experience a greater degree of improvement than others.

Hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement

open access: yesEFORT Open Reviews, 2018
The purpose of this article is to give a general overview of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and how it could be treated arthroscopically, with some details about indications, the procedure itself and some of the complications associated with the surgery.

Performance and return to sport outcomes following hip arthroscopy in National Hockey League players

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, Volume 33, Issue 8, Page 2994-3001, August 2025.
Abstract Purpose Intra‐articular hip disorders, such as femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS), labral tears and chondral damage are common in ice hockey players, particularly in the National Hockey League (NHL). However, evidence on return‐to‐sport (RTS) rates and performance outcomes post‐hip arthroscopy remains limited.
