Micro-machining Techniques for the Fabrication of Fibre Fabry-Perot Sensors [PDF]
Fabry-Perot optical fibre sensors have been used extensively for measuring a variety of parameters such as strain, temperature, pressure and vibration. Conventional extrinsic fibre Fabry-Perot sensors are associated with problems such as calibration of ...

Femtosecond laser ablation of enamel [PDF]
The surface topographical, compositional, and structural modifications induced in human enamel by femtosecond laser ablation is studied. The laser treatments were performed using a Yb:KYW chirped-pulse-regenerative amplification laser system (560 fs and 1030 nm) and fluences up to 14 J/cm2.

Femtosecond laser ablation of the stapes [PDF]
A femtosecond laser, normally used for LASIK eye surgery, is used to perforate cadaveric human stapes. The thermal side effects of bone ablation are measured with a thermocouple in an inner ear model and are found to be within acceptable limits for inner ear surgery.

Anisotropic Wettability Induced by Femtosecond Laser Ablation
Laser ablation has been utilized for locally and selectively modifying the surface wettability of materials in situ and enabling on‐demand microfabrication. The anisotropic wettability has been observed on chemical and/or topographical patterns, such as an array of laser‐inscribed strips with spacings, created on surfaces during the fabrication process.

Transverse and axial resolution of femtosecond laser ablation [PDF]
Abstract Femtosecond lasers are capable of precise ablation that produce surgical dissections in vivo . The transverse and axial resolution of the laser damage inside the bulk are important parameters of ablation.

Femtosecond laser ablation of dentin [PDF]
The main purpose of this work was to study the changes in structure and composition and the ablation mechanisms of human dentin treated with a femtosecond infrared laser. The laser treatments were carried out using a Yb:KYW chirped-pulse-regenerative amplification laser with a pulse duration of about 500 fs, a wavelength of 1030 nm and fluences ranging

Femtosecond laser-ablation of gel and water
We study the expansion dynamics of super-heated material during ultra-fast laser ablation of water and gel, using transient-reflectivity microscopy. We find that the expansion dynamics of water and gel, as observed during the first few nanoseconds, are extremely similar over a large range of ablation energies.

The art of femtosecond laser writing [PDF]
Common beliefs that laser writing does not change when reversing beam scan or propagation direction are challenged. Recently discovered phenomena of quill and non-reciprocal femtosecond laser writing in glasses and crystals are ...

Characterization of the aerosol produced by infrared femtosecond laser ablation of polyacrylamide gels for the sensitive inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry detection of selenoproteins [PDF]
A 2D high repetition rate femtosecondlaserablation strategy (2-mm wide lane) previously developed for the detection of selenoproteins in gel electrophoresis by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was found to increase signal sensitivity by a ...

Nonthermal phase transitions in semiconductors induced by a femtosecond extreme ultraviolet laser pulse [PDF]
Part of Focus on High Energy Density Physics. In this paper, we present a novel theoretical approach, which allows the study of nonequilibrium dynamics of both electrons and atoms/ions within free-electron laser excited semiconductors at femtosecond time
